Overview of Anodizing-Compass

Anodizing-Compass is the only device and OS independent software tool on the market for the prediction of the time-to-failure in salt spray tests for anodized aluminum alloys. Design engineers, architects, consultants, QC and QA personnel, maintenance and inspection engineers can quickly determine the quality of anodized aluminum alloys, anytime, anywhere, on any device running any OS without the need to install or download anything. Anodizing-Compass predicts the time-to-failure in salt spray tests, the thickness of porous layer, the thickness of barrier layer, and the total coating thickness from the following rapid and accurate lab tests:

  • Corrosion current density from DC polarization measurements as per ASTM G5

  • Impedance measurements at 1000Hz as per ASTM B457

  • Impedance measurements at 0.1Hz

  • EIS equivalent circuit modeling to determine Cpo and Cb

Figures below show the screen shots of Anodizing-Compass.

Figure 1 Overview of Anodizing-Compass Software for Predicting the Time-To-Failure in Salt Spray Tests.

From the EIS equivalent circuit modeling result shown in Figure 1 above, Anodizing-Compass predicts that the anodized coating thickness is 63 um, the thickness of the barrier layer is 17.7 nm, and the time-to-failure in salt spray test is greater than 336 hours.
